Start Motor Cruising
– Experience required: None
– Ideal for: Complete beginners
This entry-level course introduces the basics of motor cruising, helping you become a confident and capable crew member.
RYA Helmsman (Motor)
– Experience required: None
– Ideal for: Novice boaters and aspiring skippers
A practical two-day course covering basic boat handling, engine checks and onboard safety. This provides a solid foundation for skippering in familiar waters.
RYA Day Skipper (Motor)
– Experience required:
– Basic helmsmanship ability
– Minimum of 5 days onboard a motor cruiser
– 100 nautical miles logged
– 4 hours of night cruising
– Recommended: RYA Day Skipper Theory
This course teaches you to take charge of short coastal passages by day in familiar tidal waters.
RYA Coastal Skipper (Motor)
– Experience required:
– 15 days at sea
– 2 days as skipper
– 300 nautical miles logged
– 8 hours of night cruising
