Delivered in person by experienced instructors, these courses cover navigation, chartwork, tides, meteorology, safety procedures and passage planning. They are ideal for anyone preparing for practical training or working towards advanced qualifications such as Day Skipper or Yachtmaster.

RYA Classroom Courses FAQs

All of our classroom RYA theory courses take place in Southampton, close to the Solent, with easy access to marinas and transport links.

Not always. Some courses, like the RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship, are ideal for beginners. More advanced courses such as Day Skipper or Yachtmaster Theory are best suited for those with previous boating knowledge.

We’ll provide all course materials, charts, and tools. Just bring a notebook, pen, and a calculator (for navigation exercises). Comfortable clothing and refreshments are also recommended.
Class sizes are kept small to ensure personal attention from the instructor. This means you’ll have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get individual guidance.
Yes. We provide flexible scheduling, including weekday, evening, and weekend options, to fit around busy lifestyles.
Yes, upon successful completion of the course and assessments, you’ll receive an internationally recognised RYA certificate.

Absolutely. Classroom courses like the RYA Yachtmaster Theory and RYA First Aid are essential parts of commercial endorsement pathways.

We don’t provide accommodation directly, but we can recommend local options close to the training centre.
