Rob McInally is a seasoned sail and motor yacht skipper with deacdes of experience on the water and in leadership roles across multiple industries. As the founder of Associated Marine Training, Rob brings a unique blend of maritime expertise, instructional passion, and business acumen to every course and experience offered.
Rob’s journey began in the Royal Navy as a Weapons Engineer, laying the foundation for a career defined by precision, discipline, and adventure. He went on to skipper yachts around the globe, including leading crews in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, and managing complex yacht builds and international logistics.
With qualifications including Yachtmaster Ocean (Power & Sail), RYA Yachtmaster Instructor Power and Sail, Advanced Powerboat Instructor, and Sea Survival Instructor, Rob is committed to promoting safe seamanship and empowering others to explore the water with confidence. His teaching style is hands-on, approachable, and tailored to each individual’s goals—whether you’re stepping aboard for the first time or preparing for offshore passages.
Rob understands that training often takes place during your precious leisure time, and he’s passionate about making it a fun, relaxed, and enjoyable experience. Whether you’re learning the ropes or refining advanced skills, you’ll find his sessions engaging, supportive, and memorable.
Beyond the helm, Rob has held senior roles in sales, business development, and project management, giving him a strategic edge in running a training organisation that’s both professional and personal.
When not instructing, Rob volunteers teaching sailing to children at Marchwood Yacht Club and continues to advocate for accessible, enjoyable, and safe boating for all.
Simon Fowler
Instructor and Skipper – Associated Marine Training
Simon is a Powerboat Instructor up to RYA Advanced Powerboat level and Cruising Instructor up to Day Skipper level on larger vessels. He is also a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore Powerboat Skipper
with decades of boating experience and a deep passion for coastal cruising.
After a successful career in corporate leadership and training, Simon transitioned to freelance powerboat instruction, combining his love of the sea with his talent for teaching.
Simon’s background includes over 25 years in the IT and business development sector, where he led training and enablement programs for global tech companies. His ability to break down complex topics and deliver engaging, outcome-focused learning experiences translates seamlessly into his work on the water.
Simon provides skippering and instruction on powerboats up to 24m, offering a calm, professional, and enjoyable learning environment. He understands that boating is part of your leisure time and ensures that every session is relaxed, fun, and tailored to your pace and goals.
Simon’s unique blend of technical expertise, leadership experience, and genuine enthusiasm for boating makes him a valuable part of the AMT team.
Adam Hornblow
Skipper & Instructor – Associated Marine Training
Calm, friendly and unflappable, Adam brings over three decades of boat-handling experience to the Solent and beyond. A commercially endorsed RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore (Power) and instructor across both the Yachtmaster and Powerboat schemes, he’s exactly the kind of steady hand who builds confidence from the first briefing to the final berth.
Adam has logged over 10,000 miles skippering motor vessels in the UK and Mediterranean, with particular expertise around the Solent, Jurassic Coast, French Riviera ports and the Balearic Islands. Night navigation, strong tidal waters and lively weather are all part of his comfortable routine. He’s also deeply familiar with a wide range of motor yachts, workboats, powerboats and PWCs, and regularly delivers tailored own-boat tuition as well as formal RYA courses.
Students value Adam’s clear, practical coaching style and his knack for making challenging skills feel simple and enjoyable. Whether you’re starting out or polishing advanced techniques, you’ll find the day relaxed, professional and safety-led — the perfect environment to build real seamanship skills.
Neil Hall
Instructor – Associated Marine Training
Neil Hall brings a wealth of real-world experience to the water, shaped by a diverse career spanning the Army, firefighting, and construction. His practical mindset, calm under pressure, and hands-on approach make him a natural instructor and a valued member of the AMT team.
Neil is a Powerboat Level 2 Instructor and holds a commercially endorsed Day Skipper certificate, enabling him to deliver training that’s both technically sound and grounded in real-life seamanship. He’s passionate about helping students build confidence and capability, whether they’re navigating coastal waters or mastering boat handling skills.
Splitting his time between the UK and Crete, Neil also co-owns Summer Dreams, a San Lorenzo 72 charter yacht, giving him ongoing exposure to the luxury charter world and international boating standards. His global perspective and relaxed teaching style make learning with Neil both engaging and enjoyable.
